Dale Eugene “Gene” McCray, Jr., age 76, of Tusculum, died Thursday morning (September 27, 2012) at his home.

He was retired from Greene Valley Developmental Center after 40 years of service and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

Gene served in the U. S. Army and was a member of Moose Lodge No. 692. He achieved the level of Eagle Scout with Boys Scouts of America.

Mr. McCray loved animals, fishing and working outdoors. He enjoyed woodworking and collecting model trains. He was a local history buff, who never met a stranger and liked making friendships.

Survivors include two sons: Dale Eugene McCray III of Tusculum and Paul Leonard McCray of Limestone; two grandchildren: Ethan McCray and Aaron McCray; step-granddaughter: Katelin Britton; his mother: Jimmie Lou McCray of Greeneville; one brother and sister-in-law: Bob and Pam McCray of Greeneville; one niece and her husband: Courtney and Chad Lane; one nephew: Micah McCray.

He was preceded in death by his father: Dale Eugene McCray, Sr.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. on Saturday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow visitation at 6 p.m. in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel. The Rev. David Woody will officiate. Private interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boys Scouts of America Troup 94, c/o Asbury U. M. Church, 201 S. Main Street, Greeneville, TN 37743.
