Loy “Buddy” Roberts, 70, of Afton, passed away Monday evening, March 18, 2013, at his home. Buddy Roberts was a wonderful Christian man who went to be with his Lord.

Buddy was a retired military man who proudly served his country for 20 years, and also retired from Parker Hannifin after 30 years.

Survivors include his loving wife and devoted caregiver: Mildred Roberts; his children: Lisa Smith, Kermit “Dwayne” Shelton and his wife, Sondra, Steven Shelton and partner, Michael Brice, Barbara Waites and her husband, Bruce Waites, Jr.; grandchildren: Samantha Carpenter, Nakisha Jones, Alena Smith, Korena Hall, Sheldon Hall; two great-grandchildren: Cassie Jones and Leah Carpenter; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Darlis and Jimmy Shelton, Connie and Kenneth Lamb; one brother: Bobby Roberts; six sisters-in-law and their husbands: Sylvia and George Miller, Mary Shelton, Jeri and Mark Hatley, Ruth and Jim Bowens, Betty and Mark Moshea, Maxine and Phil Randall; four brothers-in-law and their wives: Bud and Jesse Fellers, Henry Fellers, Ted “Eddie” and Christy Fellers, and Bob Fellers; many nieces, nephews, and a very special friend, whom he thought of as a brother, Rev. T. R. Gosnell, and many special friends at “The Barn Church”, where he was a faithful member as long as his health permitted.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Curtis and Helen Roberts; his mother-in-law: Flossie Bowens; brother-in-law: O. D. Shelton.

The family will receive friends from 3 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Thursday at “The Barn Church”. The Rev. Mark Hatley and the Rev. Bobby Morrison will officiate. Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens with The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard conveying military honors.

Active pallbearers will be Bobby Fellers, Jim Bowens, Bruce Waites, Jr, Phil Randall, Henry Fellers, Ted Fellers, Phillip Bowens, and Frankie Shelton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Rev. T. R. Gosnell, Jason Gosnell, Jeremy Hall, Michael Brice, Vicie Cutshall, and The Barn Church family.
