Albert Herman Neas, Jr., went home to be with his Lord and Savior during the terrible thunderstorm on Friday. He was 81.
He was born on October 5, 1937 in the old Greeneville Hospital and graduated from St. James High School in 1955. He enlisted in the Marine Reserve; upon the honorable discharge he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving he spent a tour of duty in Korea in 1958. Upon honorable discharge in 1961, he came to Greeneville and started working at Russell Susong Hardware. Later he worked for Murray Construction Company. He worked on many sites, but one of his most memorable jobs was cutting all the crown molding inside the Greeneville-Greene County Library in 1976. After the excessively high interest rates and the building recession in early 1980’s, he went to work at the Old El Paso Taco plant as an oven operator. In 1985 he became a full time farmer, growing tobacco, gardens, and raising Angus cattle until his health permitted this in 2016. While farming or working tobacco, he loved to listen to Tennessee football games. In 1962, he and Judy bought season football tickets to Greeneville High School which they held until 2017. Ever after he was unable to attend; he diligently followed the Devils through the back to back 2017-2018 undefeated seasons.
He was a member and ordained Elder at First Presbyterian Church and served as head usher for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Judith Baxter Neas; his daughter and her husband, Susan and Louis Hankins; and the apple of his Papaw’s eye, his grandson, John Albert; and a host of family cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Joe and Kate Neas; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Carl and Viola Baxter; and many other family members.
