Della Kate Waddell, age 87, of Afton, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning at Greeneville Community Hospital East.
She was a homemaker and was employed for many years at Moody Dunbar Pepper Plant.
Della Kate was an active member of Hermon United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She loved animals, especially dogs, cats, and red birds. She enjoyed traveling and collecting glasses, salt and pepper sets.
Survivors include two daughters: Gloria Jean Waddell and June Westfall both of Afton; one granddaughter and her husband: Sarah and Austin Summers; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband: James Roy “Dick” Waddell in 1994; parents: Horace and Viola Mitchell; sister: Ruth Click; infant brother; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home from 1 – 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with Pastor Mark Laughlin and the Rev. Joe Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Hermon Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Tony Reaves will be an honorary pallbearer.
