Lonnie Lee Sanders, Sr., age 85, of Afton, the Doty’s Chapel Community, died Saturday night at Durham-Hensley Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Budwheels Manufacturing in Detroit, Michigan and was a farmer.
Survivors include three children and their spouses: Lonnie Lee Sanders Jr. and wife, Pam, Marilyn A. and Randy Ellis, and Johneva “Michelle” and Kevin Miller; grandchildren: Landon Sanders, Lonnie Lee Sanders III, David Forman, Jessica Payne, Kevin Miller Jr., and Heather M. Burton; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Joyce Ann Mayle and Shirley Faye Smith; one brother: William Wayne Sanders; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Mattie H. Sanders; parents: Lesley D. Sanders and Ada Smith. The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. on Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow visitation at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
A military graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Doty’s Chapel Cemetery with the Greene County Honor Guard conveying military honors.
