William Andrew “Drew” Bailey, age 76, of Chuckey, the Liberty Community, passed away suddenly Friday morning in Knoxville.
He retired from Valk Industries. Drew had a lifelong involvement with Bailey’s Sawmill, which was started in 1909 by his grandfather, Rev. Henry D. Bailey. Drew had operated the sawmill since the death of his uncle, Roy Lee Bailey, in 2015. He enjoyed woodworking and had recently been helping his son in Cold Springs Copper Works.
He was a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Wilma Burgess Bailey; one daughter: Teresa Bailey; one son: Stacy Andrew Bailey; two grandsons: Joshua Cecil Ricker and his wife, Rhonda Fine Ricker, and Zane Andrew Bailey; one sister-in-law: Judy Bailey and son, Greg Bailey; three very special brothers-in-law: Charles, Billy, and James Burgess; two aunts: Nell Bailey and Hontas Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents: Bobby Bailey and Blanche Rouse Bailey; one brother: Howard Bailey; several aunts and uncles; special uncle: Claude Rouse; grandparents: Rev. Henry D. and Lucy Bailey.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, 91 Guy Brown Road, Chuckey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Liberty FWB Church with the Rev. Terry Bailey officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in Liberty Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ronald Rouse, Douglas Rouse, Melvin Saults, Stephen Saults, Danny Ray Bailey, and Nathan Letts. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Burgess, Billy Burgess, James Burgess, and Greg Bailey.
