Billy F. DeWitt Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Billy F. “Bill” DeWitt passed away on Friday, July 1st. He was known as “Sonny” to his family. He was the son of the late Roscoe and Ruth Johnston DeWitt. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers-in-law: Floyd Olmstead and Buford Neas. He graduated from Greeneville High School in 1951 and served from 1953 to 1955 in the US Army. He was an honor graduated of The University of Tennessee with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. He was employed at Martin Company at Martin Company in Orlando Florida, Sperry/Univac Bristol TN and Unisys Corp, Santa Clara, California retiring there in 1990. He then joined the faculty at Northeast Tate Technical College for 10 Years, retired and moved back to Greeneville, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife: Karen Morrell DeWitt of the home; one son: Mark A. DeWitt, Knoxville, TN; daughter: Cheryl D DeWitt of Knoxville, Tennessee; one brother: Jack DeWitt and M. Edwana Boucher of Nashville, Tennessee; he is also survived by three sisters: Barbara Olmstead, Judy Neas and Peggy (Andrew) Renner of Greeneville, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 3rd, at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Smith officiating. Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Greene County Honor Guard will convey military honors. Pallbearers will include his nephews: B.J. Gray, Richie Renner, Chris Renner, Mike Neas, Shannon Johnson, and a close family friend, Nick Cuehner. Honorary Pallbearers includes Lyle Roy Smith, Rev. James Mays, James Kilgore, Hugh Shipley and Andrew Renner. A special thank you to Dr. Kevin Toppenberg and his nurse Sabrina, Dr. Anil V. Tumkur, Ashley Carr DNP and all the staff at Tennessee Cancer Specialist of Greeneville. We would also like to thank all of the staff in ICU at Greeneville Community Hospital. We thank Amedisys Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful services they provided. Nick Cuehner and Suzanne have been wonderful to us. Anything we have needed; they have been there. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Greeneville - Greene County Humane Society.
