Daryl Lynn Middleton, age 63, of Apex, NC, passed away Wednesday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. He was native of Greene County, a son of the late Guy E. Middleton and Opal Middleton Miracle. Daryl was recently retired from Valassis after 35 years, where he was well-respected by his coworkers and as a head press operator. Daryl loved the outdoors, especially riding his Harley, fishing, grilling, and playing with his Doberman, Thor. He inherited his green thumb, iron skillet, and love of cooking from his momma. Survivors include his wife: Sherri; one son: Jared Middleton; step-daughter: Amanda and Gary Duffield; step-son: Shane and Kristin Switzer; grandchildren: Sophia and Silas; four step-grandchildren; three sisters: Cheryl Middleton (Harry), Debra (Bobby) Scott, and Blanche Huckaby; brother-in-law: James “Polk” Rector; sister-in-law: Angel Eads; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter: Shana Middleton; step-father: Oscar Miracle; brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Donald Middleton, John D. and Jean Middleton, William Middleton, Erma and Horace “Red” Burke, Georgia Rector, Guy C. and Anna Lee Middleton, Glenna and Harold Cosley, Dolores and Sam Parker, Carl and Ruth Middleton, Phillip Cates, Clarence Huckaby. The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th, at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Baxter will officiate. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill C.P. Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jared Middleton, Bobby Scott, Harry Jeter, Carl Shepherd, Houston Edwards, and Daniel Middleton.Read Obituary

My thoughts and prayers go out to Daryl’s family. My respect and appreciation to Daryl for the success he contributed to the Valassis Wichita, Kansas facility. I am grateful that he trusted me and moved his family to Kansas and was able to develop his career and build upon the development of our printing facility. His ability to train and share his trade experience helped in the development of many of his crew members. He challenged us and pushed us to be better. A true friend and caring person to many. The evening of his last shift in Durham we connected and talked about the road traveled over his 35 years with Valassis and how he was looking forward to retirement. I am so grateful for that conversation and shared my appreciation for our time together. Daryl may you be blessed in the presence of God and hope our paths will cross again my friend!
