George Cicero Mays

George Cicero Mays, age 83, of Greeneville, died Saturday, April 23, 2022 at his home. He attended Gass Memorial Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 1946 until its closing where he served as an Elder, Clerk, and Treasurer for over 30 years. He currently attended Greeneville Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and member of the Session. George received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1960 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and his Master of Science degree in 1964 also from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He did Post-Graduate studies at the University of Tennessee, Colorado State University, The University of Wisconsin and The University of Illinois. He was a clerk for over 30 years and was the current Treasurer of Presbytery of East Tennessee and also managed Mays Brothers Farm for over 40 years with his late brother, Ben Mays. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Mays was a professor at the University of Tennessee from 1966-1999. He also served as the Electronic Media Director of the UT Institute of Agriculture from 1976-1992. He was also the Statewide Coordinator for the 4-H Youth Organization Communication Project and Public Speaking Activity. Survivors include his niece, Kristy Mays; a sister-in-law, Kathy Mays; several cousins, and a very special pet, Ricky Ricardo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fox and Velma Mays; brother, Ben F. Mays; and his grandparents, George Cicero and Emma Gass Mays. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Jamie Lively officiating. Family and Friends will be pallbearers.
