Ina Jo Carter

September 27, 1924 - March 10, 2022

Ina Jo Carter, age 97, passed away Thursday evening at Greeneville Community Hospital East. Ina was born September 27, 1924, in the Romeo Community, to the late Joel and Nixie Kenney Owen. She was the younger of two children and was preceded in death by her sister, Violet Owen Tucker. Ina married Jo Jo Carter and they raised two children, Claire and Mark Carter. Jo Jo preceded her in death in 1986 and Mark preceded her in death in 2011. She was known for a kind and compassionate spirit and lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with family and friends, gardening, and volunteering. She was a faithful long-time member of Romeo United Methodist Church. Survivors include one daughter: Claire; a granddaughter: Heather Carter; a great-granddaughter: Hannah Carter; two nephews: Billy Owen Tucker of Oak Ridge and Robert Tucker of Baileyton; and a special friend, Geneva Brotherton and family. The family extends a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Greeneville Community Hospital, Caris Hospice, and Life Care Center of Greeneville for their kind and loving care. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Prices Cemetery at Romeo. The Rev. Abby Cole Keller will officiate. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service. There will be no formal visitation, however, those wishing to sign the guest register may do so at their convenience at Doughty-Stevens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Greeneville-Greene County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 792, Greeneville, TN 37744. Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
