Mary Jo Pierce

Mary Jo Kirk Pierce of Mohawk passed away in her dreams Sunday morning at the age of 87. She was the last surviving child of Croff and Lea Mina Kirk. Mary Jo was a charter member of Bibles Chapel Baptist Church. After her kids were grown she loved to travel with her husband, Gayle, who drove a truck. They saw many states together and met a lot of good friends. Mary Jo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved trips to the mountains with family, she enjoyed flowers and hummingbirds. She was affectionately called “Tody” by her youngest daughter. Those left to cherish her memory are her four children: Geary and Re Pierce of Georgia, Vance and Lisa Pierce of Bulls Gap, Lesa and Kenny Majors of Mohawk, and Lorie Pierce McCamey of Midway; grandchildren: Dustin and Kristen Pierce, Garret and Skye Pierce, Daniel and Nichole Pierce, Adam and Miranda Pierce, Matthew and Nikki Majors, Megan and Scottie Lawson, Casey McCamey and Anthony Eddins, Rachel and Cory Lindsey, Shannon and Laura Barr; 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years: Gayle Leslie Pierce who passed away in April of 2021; special granddaughter: Kristen Pierce; brother: Sammy (Gene) Kirk; sisters: Jeanette (Joe) Pettit, Betty Kirk Bales, and Blanche Kirk Jones; father-in-law and mother-in-law: George Melvin and Ruth Pierce. She was also preceded in death by several friends from the McDonald morning gang. The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 6 o’clock in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donnie Bible officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery in Mohawk. Active pallbearers will be Adam Pierce, Daniel Pierce, Garrett Pierce, Dustin Pierce, Matthew Majors, Christian Pierce, and Zander Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike and Cheryl Stroud, Terry and Kay Lawson, Kenny Majors whom she loved like a son, Tom and Jana Solomon, Rocky and Teresa Byrd, and Richard Day.
