Michelle Hankins, age 56, of Afton, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning at Greeneville Community Hospital. Michelle was retired from the Greene County School System after 30 years of service, serving a number of years as Librarian at Chuckey Elementary School. She was a co-owner of Old Stage Wash House and 70 & Summer Coin Laundry. She was a member of Mt. Zion Church, Afton, and the Mt. Zion Women. Survivors include her husband of 30 years: Pat Hankins; one daughter and son-in-law: Amee and Nick Fillers; one son: SrA Jeremy Parker Hankins, USAF; one sister and brother-in-law: Cathy and Mike Cassidy and their children, Anna and Adam; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Kenny and Marianne Gray, Steven and Corinne Gray; brother-in-law: Bobby Hankins. Michelle was preceded in death by her parents: Richard Dierlam and Delane Dierlam; sister: Phyllis Tomic. The family will receive friends at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home from 3 – 8 p.m. on Friday. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with the Rev. Jim Carter and the Rev. Kristen Burkhart officiating. Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Nick Fillers, Mike Cassidy, Jerry Smith, Christian Derry, Dale Kyker, and Mark Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chuckey Elementary School Library.
