Otis Dee Shelton

Otis Dee Shelton, age 80, of the Sunnydale Community, passed away Monday evening at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness. He retired from BASF (American Enka) and the Town of Greeneville Street Department. Otis met Patsy Crum on November 24, 1978, they were married May 10, 1982 and were happily married for 41 years. In addition to his wife, Patsy, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Billy and Jill Collins Shelton; one sister: Zollie Mills; brother-in-law: JH Gregg; sister-in-law: Glenna Ruth Shelton; nephews and their wives: Craig and Donna Shelton, Michael (Tammy) Shelton, Garry (Penny) Gregg, Dale Gregg, C. Ray and Cheryl Mills, and Ernie Dunn; niece: Janet Proctor; two great-nieces, three great-nephews, two great-great-nieces, and two great-great-nephews; and his special dog: Blue Bell. Otis is preceded in death by his parents: Jerlo and Iva Renner Shelton; brothers and sisters-in-law: IJ and Elizabeth Shelton, Robert and Ida Gregg Shelton, Ralph Shelton; sisters and brothers-in-law: Ida Ruth Waddell Bowers, Oscar Waddell, Ray Bowers, Nora Gregg, and Ray Mills; two nieces: Peggy Waddell Dunn and Karen Gregg Parks; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Clyde and Beatrice Crum. The family will receive friends at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Shelton officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at Doughty-Stevens at 10 a.m. Friday to go in procession to Cedar Creek Cemetery for the 11 a.m. committal service. Active pallbearers will be Billy Shelton, Travis Myers, David Love, Brian Myers, Campbell Shelton, Floyd Gillespie, and Derrick Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends at Gosnell’s Stereo and Music, his former coworkers at BASF and the Town of Greeneville, and friends and neighbors.
