Phyllis Carter, 88, of the Mosheim community, passed away Thursday afternoon at Life Care Center of Greeneville. She was born on January 7th, 1934. She was well known and well-loved in the Mosheim Community. She was the daughter of the late Mae and J.W. Parker. Mrs. Carter was a member of Brown Springs Baptist Church in Mosheim. She was married to her life-long companion, Eugene Carter, for 72 wonderful years. They were married on February 7th, 1950. Everyone around them admired the love that they had for one another. Phyllis will especially be remembered for instructing aerobic exercises in the late 1970’s and 1980’s throughout Greene County. She also loved her job as a rural mail carrier in Mosheim. She especially loved cooking and baking for her family and church. She will be remembered for her good sense of humor, her kind soul and how much she loved others. Phyllis is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Al Hodges and Susan and Mark Compton; one granddaughter, Whitney Compton-Holt and her husband, Cody Holt; one great-granddaughter Sophia; brother, Tommy Parker; sisters, Shirley Wright and Reva Sue Kirk; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who she admired. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Carter who passed away on March 15, 2022; her brothers, Donald Parker, Ed Parker, William Wayne Parker, Kenneth Beryl Parker and Hebert Allen Parker; and a sister, Margaret Parker Moore. The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm at Brown Springs Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 with funeral services to follow visitation at 1:00 pm. Rev. Richard Long will officiate. Interment will follow in Brown Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Cody Holt, Tim Newton, David Kirk, Tony Kirk. Gene Hensley will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family would like to express special thanks to the Amedisys Hospice Team and a special caring and compassionate nurse, Brandy Gainey, at Life Care Center of Greeneville.
