His family said goodbye to him in Franklin, TN. Ray was born April 20, 1930 to William “Bill” and Maude Weems Elliott. Ray was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years, Pearl Tweed Elliott; as well as his parents. Grieving his loss are; his daughter, Teresa Elliott Rutledge; son in law, John Rutledge; grandchildren and their spouses, Jason Rutledge (April), Terri Rutledge Hibbs (Kevin), Stephen Rutledge (Nikki), William Rutledge (Sarah); seven great-grandchildren; chosen family member, Ron Metcalfe; special helper, John Campbell; and the entire Radio Greeneville Staff and Community. Ray was 92 and led a very full life. Many did not know how old he was because he was always working and on the go. Like his dad, he was a problem solver and could fix almost anything. During his service in the Army, state side during the Korean Conflict, he received radio technician training. He put it to good use in Greeneville, first as a radio, then TV repairman. Later, as the engineer at Radio Greeneville, he kept the station on the air for six decades. He was well loved by his radio listeners, and anyone who knew him. Ray’s fun-loving and silly nature made him ageless; he could relate to anyone and make them smile. He was also very kind. More than once, he rescued dogs that had been hit and took care of their vet bill. He was an amateur photographer and loved music, especially big band. Ray was a dedicated and caring husband, father, grand and great-grandfather. His family is blessed to have had so many years with him. On June 11th, 2018 he obeyed the gospel by being baptized. His family is grateful for God’s promise of eternal life to all those who obey Him! The family will receive friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Monday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with Minister Josh Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be John Rutledge, Jason Rutledge, Stephen Rutledge, William Rutledge, Kevin Hibbs, and Ron Metcalfe.
