Obituary S.D. "Shelby" Lowe, 95, formerly of Oak Grove Avenue, died Monday evening at Laughlin Healthcare Center.He was born August 31, 1910, in Johnson City, the son of the late Rev. C.E. Lowe and Rose Tolley Lowe, and was the widower of the late Cleo Cannon Lowe, his wife of 61 years. Mr. Lowe was the oldest member of Christ United Methodist Church, having been a member for 78 years. He was retired from Pet Milk Co., had previously worked as a sales representative for Hood Chair Co., and was a veteran of World War II.His family knew him as a wonderful husband, son, and brother, and a kind, good, gentle man of faith who was loved and cherished by his family and friends.He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rader; a niece, Mary Shelton; and a great-nephew and his wife: Andrew and Susan Gay Rader.Survivors include four sisters and one brother-in-law: Bonnie Woody of Chuckey, Iva Walker, Stella Parton and Rose and R.L. Bowling, all of Greeneville; a sister-in-law: Mary Lynn Van Huss of Kingsport; nieces and nephews: Charles Rader, Max Woody, Bill Woody, Jack Walker, Jr., Robert Walker, Linda Walker Smith, Shelby Walker, Neal Holt, Cindy Van Huss Lockhart, Lisa Shull Bowling, and John Shull; several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and special friends and caregivers: Jane Moore and Ben Moore of Chuckey.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Chapel with the Rev. Tim Brackens and the Rev. Sam Smith officiating.
