Wylda Maurine Stonecypher

May 14, 1933 - January 27, 2022

Wylda Maurine Stonecypher, 88, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away Thursday morning, January 27th, at Houston Methodist Hospital, The Woodlands, TX after a short battle with Covid Pneumonia. Mrs. Stonecypher was born May 14, 1933 in Greeneville, TN, a daughter of the late James A. Brooks, Sr. and Nellie Houston Brooks. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Ben Stonecypher, Sr.; two brothers: Herman E. Brooks; and James A. Brooks, Jr.; two sisters: Wanda Brooks and Irene Williams; one brother-in-law: Norman Stonecypher and his wife Sylvia; one niece: Jamie Reaves. Wylda graduated from Washington College Academy in 1952. She enjoyed her 25+ years in food service with the Greeneville City School system. Additionally, she shared with her husband, Stonecypher Catering, for 30+ years, and enjoyed every aspect from preparation of an event to fruition. Over the years, she catered hundreds of events locally and throughout east TN. Her hobbies included reading and collecting recipes, cooking, entertaining, and playing cards with close friends. Her passions were spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending and serving her church, Chuckey United Methodist, as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Stonecypher is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Helen and Eddy Martin of Limestone; a son and daughter-in-law: Ben Jr. and Alice Stonecypher of Chuckey; a daughter and son-in-law: Becky and Mark Mitchell of Hendersonville, TN; two sisters-in-law: Doris Brooks of Greeneville; and Janet Stonecypher of Limestone; several grandchildren: Annette Martin Sexton and her husband, Eric of Greeneville; Daniel Martin of Limestone; April Carter Hamilton and her husband, Michael of Chuckey; and Grayson Mitchell of Hendersonville, TN; several great grandchildren: Kayle Sexton of Greeneville; Gabrielle "Gabby" Carter of Chuckey; and Tanner Sexton of Greeneville; one niece: Heather Stonecypher Hawkins; three nephews: Ricky Stonecypher, Allen and Joey Brooks. A scriptural description of Wylda's life could be summarized by Psalm 100: "Make a joyful noise to the Lord...Serve the Lord with gladness...Enter his gates with thanksgiving…" The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 9th, from 11 am – 1 pm and 4 – 8 pm at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, February 10th in the chapel at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Emmert officiating. Interment will follow in Chuckey Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ben Stonecypher Jr., Daniel Martin, Eric Sexton, John D. Carter, Michael Hamilton and Ron Blanton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Grayson Mitchell, Tanner Sexton, Bobby Broyles, Sam Broyles, Steve Broyles, John Brown, and Allen Carter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to arthritis.org or to Alzheimer's Assoc. at act.alz.org/donate.
